Quiltcon Charity Quilt - We did it!

Final update? Who said that? What good is a final update without some pictures of the finished quilt?

The quilt will be on its way to Austin and QuiltCon tomorrow, and I have to thank everyone who had anything to do with this process. Thanks to all the guild members who made blocks and donated fabric, to Peggy for organizing and motivating, to Pat, Jessica and Cortney for help with design and piecing, to Diane for the amazing quilting, to Stephanie for her super fast binding skills, to Margaret for transporting and to Beth for letting us use RPS as a workspace and drop off zone. The generosity of this group is inspiring.

Our guild rocks so hard.

QuiltCon charity quilt - Final update

We're in the home stretch! After some gorgeous quilting from Diane, Stephanie is now binding our guild quilt for the Austin Children's Shelter. Margaret is going to be taking it to Austin for us on Wednesday, which means that the finished quilt will be at Rock Paper Scissors for the weekend. Since we won't have a chance for show and tell before that, please come by and take a look. I'll be washing it and putting the label and sleeve on it Monday before its big trip.

QuiltCon progress-- the back

The back of the QuiltCon quilt is finished and off to be long arm quilted by the wonderfully generous Diane. Here's a look-- it wasn't trimmed or squared off, but we managed to piece the whole thing together completely from donated fabric. Cortney, Peggy and I were busy sewing and pressing for about three hours after we figured out the design.

There was one huge piece of white fabric with green circles, so that became one side, and we continued with the charcoal stripe theme to reference the front. The other side was pieced from three inch wide strips.

Thanks to the team and everyone who gave fabric! More updates will come as we have them.

NJ Quilt Festival coming March 1-2

The Clifton Quilt Guild is having a small bus trip to the NJ Quilt Festival on Saturday, March 2 and are inviting other guild members (inculding us) to go with them. They need 20 people to make this happen, and it should be fun to meet other local quilters.   Cost is $28 round trip.  The bus will leave the Clifton Senior Barn parking lot at 9:am and return around 6:pm.

You can contact Michele Kopack at nightowlbeads@yahoo.com if you'd like to save the driving, relax, and not worry about parking.  Michele plans to get herself to a meeting of our guild very soon.

P.S. from me -- if you go, be sure to visit the Handloom Batik booth and look at the drop-dead gorgeous Indian batiks you can only get from Usha, who imports them from her family's textile business in India.  I'm heartbroken to be missing the opportunity, but I'll be teaching at Empty Spools at Asilomar in Pacific Grove, CA at the time.
